Born in 1960, Fielding Archer graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a BFA in Painting and Printmaking. After graduation, he received a grant to attend Skowhegan, a residency program for emerging artists in Skowhegan, Maine. Upon his return from Skowhegan, Fielding studied with renowned American painter, Julien Binford. Fielding’s work captures the soul of an object through the use of color and simplicity of form. His compositions rely less on traditional pictorial structure and more on the use of color, perspective and composition. This seemingly effortless hand that is seen in his paintings, combined with his ability to easily capture the likeness and spirit of his subject, has also enabled Fielding to become one of the country’s leading portrait painters. He has been described as an artist’s artist by his contemporaries. An award winner in national juried exhibitions, Fielding’s art is included in numerous private and corporate collections.
In addition to his paintings, Fielding has added an award winning line of stainless steel furniture to his portfolio. Its design is a reflection of the simple elegance that defines his art.
